Six weeks out....

Well the election is finally over and the weight of all the work we have to do is starting to mount.  I wanted to continue the blogging I started as a candidate and continue to share with you what is going on with SHPE.

From the question: "Why are you a Professional SHPE member?"
Prior to the end of the election, I was leading a task force to understand professional member views of the organization in hopes of assessing the value of a SHPE membership and the potential improvements beyond our obvious need to execute better.  This work has been complete and the analysis was very interesting.  You will likely hear more about this in the coming weeks.

I've began working with +Yuliana Porras Mendoza  to determine what roles committees are working, which ones need revision and which committees we need to start.  This directly aligns with the strategic focus area we talked about during the campaign of creating more well funded committees to execute tactically.  Specifically I hope to convince our Regional Leadership of the need to move their tactical responsibilities to regional committees that I'd like to create this year.  This is very exciting and I am looking forward to announcing these new positions opening up within a week or two in a call for volunteers.

The SHPE IPC meeting is happening this week and I am not able to attend in person, due to cost.  However I will be presenting to the IPC my vision for the organization moving forward via shared desktop and telecon.  I really wish I could have been there but I hope to inspire with my brief presentation and Q&A.

This week, I've been fortunate to work with a lot of amazing SHPE Leaders: +Tomás Maldonado  from SHPE Boston is preparing the SHPE ELI conference to be held in September, +Natalia Ariza  and Omar De Leon SHPE DC are working on the NILA Professional Curriculum, +Andrea Sanchez  is working on the SHPE Newsletter Update as well as the revised SHPE National Calendar.

In the next two weeks we need to finalize details about the SHPE NBOD retreat, get agreement around the establishment of regional committees and the shift of RVP responsibilities.  We need to get working on the FY14 Budget and I need to connect with the staff about potentially holding a kaizen in the SHPE office.

It's been a very busy week since the elections announcement.  I'm expecting no relief.  Let's get this SHPE moving!
